Frequently Asked Questions

Many of our students have never taken voice lessons before.  This can actually be an advantage, as we can build your vocal technique using a uniform language.

We schedule two performances a year. These performances are intended for friends and family, and so that our studio members can meet each other. 

We do make exceptions for talented students under the age of 12 that are currently performing or recording. Also, students preparing for roles or auditions at local schools or theatres are welcome to the studio. 

For students under the age of 8, we highly recommend the general music education offered at Tonewood Family Music. Lori and Cooper send both of their children there and find that the musical educational experience is exceptional.

You do not need to know how to read music to study with us. However, we HIGHLY encourage all of our middle and high school students to learn to read music and play basic piano. There are many local and online resources to do this, and it makes your future music making significantly easier. 

 The consultation is a way for us to get to know your voice and goals for voice lessons. All you need to bring is a song that you like to sing, memorized.  Consultations are 45 minutes long, with usually about 30 minutes of singing and 15 minutes of Q&A. You will sing a song, or part of a song, and then we will do some warmups, and work on some techniques to apply to the piece.  The consultation is at our studio located just South of the University of Florida off of 13th Street. We will give an exact address with even more info once we confirm a time that works for you. 

Lessons are billed one of two ways. Weekly prepaid students are charged on the 1st of the month to their card or account on file. If you pay by check, cash or Zelle, payment is due on the first lesson. All other lessons are payable on the day of the lesson.

We accept Cancellations up to 24 hours before scheduled lessons. Students have 4 cancellations in a year to sue within 2 weeks of lesson time before being charged a late cancellation fee. Lessons cancelled day of are charged a full lessons fee, All lesson fees carry over to the next month to use on future lessons.
