Frequently Asked Questions

Many of our students have never taken voice lessons before.  This can actually be an advantage, as we can build your vocal technique using a uniform language.

We schedule two performances a year. These performances are intended for friends and family, and so that our studio members can meet each other. 

About half of the members of GVS are over the age of 18. Some of those are professional singers, while others have local rock bands, or are just looking to improve their singing or piano around their friends and family.

For students 8+, we have studio teachers who have studied with Senior Instructors for a minimum of 6 months, and have extensive teaching experience teaching youth. 

For students under the age of 8, we highly recommend the general music education offered at Tonewood Family Music. Lori and Cooper send both of their children there and find that the musical educational experience is exceptional.

You do not need to know how to read music to study with us. However, we HIGHLY encourage all of our middle and high school students to learn to read music and play basic piano. 

 The consultation is a way for us to get to know your voice and goals for voice lessons. All you need to bring is a song that you like to sing, memorized.  Consultations are 45 minutes long, with usually about 30 minutes of singing and 15 minutes of Q&A. You will sing a song, or part of a song, and then we will do some warmups, and work on some techniques to apply to the piece.  

Lessons are billed one of two ways. Prepaid students are charged on the 1st of the month to their card or account on file. If you pay by check, cash or Zelle, payment is due on the first lesson. All other lessons are payable on the day of the lesson. All group lesssons are monthly commitment.

Weekly Lessons with Studio Teachers

• Tuition: 
  • $295 per month for 45-minute lessons (recommended).
  • $370 per month for 1-hour lessons.
  • $225 per month for 30-minute lessons.
  • Tuition is same regardless of if a month has 4 or 5 weeks
• Schedule: Tuition accounts for the following holidays:

Holidays (No Lessons): Vacations 2025

• Spring - Memorial Day Vacation: May 24 - June 1
• July 4th
• Fall Break: August 17 - 23
• Thanksgiving Break: November 24 - 30
• Winter Break: December 21 - January 3

Makeup Lessons Policy

• In-Person Makeup Lessons: 2 per semester with 2 weeks’ notice.
• Video Makeup Lessons: Provided for notice under 2 weeks, valid for 30 days. 
  • Students send a video, receive critiques, and submit a follow-up. Teachers reply with practice guidance for the week.
• Same-Day Cancellations: No video credit for cancellations after midnight day-of.

Missed Teacher Policy

• If a teacher misses a lesson and no substitute is available, an in-person makeup lesson will be arranged with no expiration.

Summer Payment Suspension

• Suspend payment for 1 month with 30 days’ notice.

Cancellation Policy

• 30-day notice required to discontinue lessons.

Multi-Lesson Discount

• 10% off (up to $50) for families/students taking more than one weekly lesson.
